Saturday, 10th April 2010

la_giralda_sevillaWe propose to visit Seville, the capital of Andalusia, and Cordoba, joined by one of the major river in Spain, the Guadalquivir. Both cities host UNESCO World Heritage sites, and we will visit deeply their treasures.

The visit will be organized in groups of at least 30 people and is a two days excursion: Saturday and Sunday after the conference.

Seville:

italica2The group will depart from the Congress and Exhibitions Center, and will arrive to Santiponce (Seville), there will visit the first Roman city, Italica (see left picture). This is one of the oldest Roman settlement on Hispania, since it was founded in the year 206 BC C. Two Roman emperors, Trajano and Adriano, were born in this city.

plazaespanaatardecerExcursion will continue in Seville city centre, visiting the Plaza de España (Spain square, see left picture), the Cathedral, the third Christian temple, and the Giralda, which is the symbol of the city, where visitors can enjoy a splendid panorama of Seville. From the cathedral we will go to the Torre del Oro (Gold Tower) and continue our journey to discover the hidden jewels of the old Santa Cruz quartier with its narrow streets, small squares, plenty of orange trees and backyards with a lot of flowers.

Córdoba:

On Sunday, we will visit Medina Azahara, a mulslim city-palace where Al-andalus monarchs used to spend their free time. In the afternoon, we will walk through the city centre and visit the Mosque-Cathedral, the Alcazar, the Jewish quarter and the Synagogue.
